OBJECTIVE

To work as a Library Media Specialist in a school library, serving as an integral part of the educational team.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledgeable Advisor: Using current information gained through reading journal reviews, attending library conferences, being active professionally in my field and taking courses, I made thoughtful material selection choices and provided helpful reader’s advisory services both at the children’s and reference desks. My background in education has provided me with a sound understanding of school curriculums and expectations of students and teachers.

Approachable, effective Supervisor: I was the person in charge during the shifts I covered the reference desk at Menomonie Public Library. In that role, I was expected to maintain order and help anyone needing assistance. I also supervised the library pages and circulation staff. This required flexibility, consistent expectations and the ability to adapt to new situations. Other supervisory roles in my life have included being a classroom teacher, a playground supervisor, a theater director, a Brownie leader and a parent.

Creative Programmer: I created consistently excellent, interesting and appropriate programs for preschool through young adult patrons in my work at the public library. Also, during many year’s work with improvisational theater for children, I have demonstrated the ability to make decisions, take risks and work as a team player. I am a hard worker and pay close attention to detail in making ideas into successful realities.

EMPLOYMENT

Children’s Assistant, Menomonie Public Library

1998-2003

In my years at the library, I improved patron satisfaction by increasing the services, upgrading the collection, being awarded grants and becoming involved at a statewide level in the Wisconsin Library Association. I am eager to use those skills in a school LMC.

Classroom Teacher, School District of the Menomonie Area

1989-1992

As a classroom teacher, I understood the need to integrate all subjects and to reach students at their level. This makes me an excellent educator in a library. Re-writing the language arts curriculum and researching trade books for an environmental grant were among my many accomplishments in the Menomonie School District that gave me these skills.
